We often fall into patterns and routines that cause us to forget the most important thing: taking care of ourselves. Remembering to eat right, exercise regularly, and take personal time to recharge your batteries isn’t always easy. As a result, bad habits can creep up on you. In order to ditch those habits and develop healthy ones, you have to be patient and diligent. Find a path to overall health improvement by mindfully and patiently focusing on these five important areas. [This post contains affiliate link]

1. Sleep

Life has a tendency to keep us incredibly busy, whether through work, family, or other commitments. We often find ourselves stretched razor-thin and with little time to take care of ourselves, making adequate sleep among the most difficult things to achieve. Sleep is arguably one of the most important activities for your health, and not only because it affects your energy, concentration, and weight. Sleep deprivation can eventually catch up to you and cause problems such as high blood pressure and a weakened immune system.

You can start adopting better sleep habits by trying to go to bed at the same time each night, but give yourself a half-hour head start to prepare for bed and fall asleep. If you’re having trouble getting to sleep, look into your nightly habits. Things such as caffeine, sugar, and phone use tend to keep you awake and interfere with your natural sleep cycle.

2. Nutrition

Eating clean is a popular mindset because dietary health has a significant impact on your overall health. One of the benefits of clean eating is weight loss, but by following a healthy diet, you can reduce your risk of heart disease, cancer, and diabetes. Eating healthy can also contribute to boosting your self-esteem, increasing your productivity, and improving energy levels. Since everyone is different, you should consult with your doctor or nutritionist before starting a diet plan to find one that works for you.

3. Exercise

While sleep and eating are two essential pillars to consider when setting down the path toward a healthier you, another factor you should take into account is exercise. Finding a weekly or daily routine of getting out and moving about can do wonders for your health, and it doesn’t have to be at the gym. Jumpstart a healthy heart by exercising at least 150 minutes per week, whether it’s doing yoga at home (all you need is a yoga mat and some online tutorials to get started) or going on a walk around your neighborhood.

4. Organization

A clean and organized home can do much more than simply provide a comfortable living experience for everyone under your roof. In addition to ridding the air of dust, irritants, and allergens, giving your home some much-needed TLC can also work wonders for your mental health. While it’s easy to add cleaning the house to your schedule, you’ll have a much easier time if you bring in some professionals every so often to get into the crevices and corners you tend to miss.

5. Healthcare

For seniors who are interested in getting some time in at the gym, be sure to look into your health insurance plan — many of which also cover chiropractic care. Seniors who are covered by Medicare Advantage plans might have access to various fitness centers around the country. Make sure you pay attention to any updates to your plan, as they frequently change. Regardless of age, you should be taking full advantage of your medical insurance plan. If you’re already paying for the plan, use the benefits whenever you can.

It’s never too late to start taking care of yourself. If you incorporate some of the habits above into your daily routine, you’ll reap the rewards on your way to a higher quality of life. Don’t forget to research any diet plan that you might be thinking about, speak to your doctor or nutritionist, and make time to sleep as needed. With a newfound drive to focus on self-care, you can be fit, healthy, and reborn.
